The investment decision by the U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu and the Interior Salazar announced that the main purpose is to reduce through technological innovation cost of offshore wind power. Salazar said the United States is a more efficient and Pioneer plan to promote the development of wind power industry to ensure that the United States in the field of offshore wind power leader, and noted that the East Coast of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia has the unique advantages of wind power development.

Chu said that 50.5 million U.S. dollars investment will be used for three areas, of which $ 25,000,000 for the fan design and development; $ 18,000,000 for the deployment of offshore wind turbine and the elimination of negative factors on the environment, and the remaining 7.5 million U.S. R & D and improve the next generation will be used to fan drive systems. In accordance with the Department of Energy’s plan, the United States plans to offshore wind power by 2020, expansion to 10 million kilowatts by 2030 to reach 54 million kilowatts.
